NAI Maestas & Ward names Debbie Harms Operating Partner; as seen in ABQ Business First

Debbie Harms and Steve Maestas merged their property management entities about five years ago. Now they’ve officially merged leadership responsibilities at Albuquerque’s NAI Maestas & Ward Commercial Real Estate.

Harms is now the operating manager at the firm after being the managing partner for about five years. Part of the transition was natural, she said, but it was also due, in part, to Maestas’ emerging role with the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City.

Maestas was named deputy chair of the group for 2014 and the position often requires him to be in Washington, D.C. Maestas is also the outgoing chairman of Albuquerque Economic Development.

Harms, with her husband Irwin, have owned Sun Vista Enterprises Inc. since 1991, a property management and development firm. While Sun Vista merged with Maestas, the maintenance crews and vehicles still bear the name.

“Steve and I have similar management styles,” Harms told Business First. “We’re good partners and do well together — it’s a natural fit.”

There are five entities under Maestas’ and Harms’ leadership: Maestas & Ward, Maestas & Ward Santa Fe, H&M Property Services, Prime Properties LLC and Sun Vista Enterprises.

Harms grew up in Farmington and earned business administration and accounting degrees at Arizona State University. She later earned a management degree at the University of Phoenix in Albuquerque.

Maestas & Ward, with headquarters in the North I-25 corridor, employs 72 brokers and support staff. In 2013, it completed 650 transactions valued at $224 million.
