What did you do before your career in Commercial Real Estate began?
I was in the Dental Hygiene field for 20 years as a clinician, recruiter, HR director and clinical instructor.
What made you take that leap and transition into commercial real estate?
Sadly, I should’ve taken the leap sooner as my family was always encouraging me to join the business. However, I fell in love with the medical field, helping others and forging my own path.
What part of being a new broker did you find most challenging?
I spent years trying to dummy down the medical information for my patients and students in order for them to better understand and have them be an advocate with me. When moving into this field as every industry does the terminology, processes and documents were challenging. I needed to understand it enough to be able to inform my clients once again but, there was so much to learn myself and understand. At times it felt daunting, and many referred to this process as “drinking through a firehose”.
What advice would you give someone considering a career in CRE?
Find your self a Mentor. I wouldn’t be where I am right now if it weren’t for my partner and mentor. She took me under her wing and taught me everything. She would course correct me when necessary and she held me accountable to my goals. A mentor is someone who sees more talent and ability within you, than you see in yourself, and helps bring it out of you.” — Bob Proctor.
Who has influenced you the most in this role?
Women of Commercial Real Estate. I’ve been influenced by all the women I’ve been blessed to work each transaction with; from the brokerage I work under to the women in property management to the ladies in finance and title. These women have been supportive, encouraging, mentoring and most of all selfless. Joining CREW New Mexico continues to fill my professional life with new work relationships and support.
What would you say has been the highlight of your career to date?
I actually have two things that have happened to date and both have been my best moments. Last year I was awarded the Best Customer Service award and I was so proud of this award. I pride myself on always trying to put my clients first. This award is given based on our clients reviews and comments. So the fact that I was given this award and it came from my clients is the biggest honor I could receive. The second came this year when I was awarded the Carbon Award. The award winner is voted on by their peers. What an honor to know that the people you see every day recognize your work, ability and attitude. It’s the biggest compliment I could receive.
Where can we find Lisa on the weekends?
If it’s football season you’ll find me and my family either at GEHA Arrowhead or at home watching the KC Chiefs. We also love spending our weekends bowling, hiking and kayaking.
