As we gather to celebrate International Women’s Day, NAI SunVista reflects on the remarkable journey of women in the dynamic world of Commercial Real Estate. This day holds special significance for us, as it highlights the invaluable contributions and achievements of the women who have transformed this industry and shattered glass ceilings along the way.
From pioneering leaders who blazed trails in brokerage, development, property management, and beyond, to the rising stars who are shaping the future of our industry, each of us plays a vital role in driving progress and innovation.
According to Senior Director Shelly Branscom, CCIM, a woman who has provided these invaluable contributions is NAI SunVista CEO, Debbie Harms, CCIM, SIOR. Shelly has this to say about Debbie’s contributions as a woman in Commercial Real Estate: “Debbie has held many leadership positions. What inspires me about Debbie is she leads to make those around her better people and better in their careers…”
In a historically male-dominated field, women have defied expectations and forged their paths, challenging stereotypes and carving out spaces where our voices are heard and our talents recognized. This uniquely challenging experience has allowed women to form a community in support of one another.
When asked about a time she felt supported in her community by another Woman in commercial real estate, Senior Advisor Genieve Posen said: “I will never forget a female mentor and leader in commercial real estate telling me that I can be a successful broker AND a successful mom. It wouldn’t be easy, but it would be worth it! It has always stuck with me.”
International Women’s Day is not just a celebration of our achievements; it’s a call to action to continue breaking down barriers and creating more opportunities for women in commercial real estate. When asked about what resources have helped her forge more opportunities in the Commercial Real Estate World, Advisor Danaë Fernandez thanked “Women-owned business groups. There are so many incredible women who understand the challenges, share the same worries or fears, have overcome hurdles, and love their community.”
As we mark this day, let us reaffirm our commitment to fostering an industry that is equitable, inclusive, and reflective of the diverse world we inhabit. Let us amplify the voices of women in commercial real estate, celebrate their successes, and pave the way for the next generation of leaders to thrive.
